Definition
Annualized bleed rate (ABR)
The average number of bleeds someone has in a year. This is the range most commonly used to evaluate hemophilia treatments.
Anticoagulant
Protein that promotes blood flow. Ex: Tissue factor pathway inhibitor
Blood clotting factor
Protein in blood that promotes clotting. You may see one represented with a capital F and Roman numeral. Ex: Low levels of FVIII or FIX can determine a hemophilia diagnosis and severity
Hemostasis
How your body stops bleeding
Mean
The mathematical average in a collection of numbers
Procoagulant
Protein that promotes blood clotting, also known as clotting factor. Ex: FVIII, FIX, FX
Rebalancing therapy
A non-factor based treatment that restores the balance of clotting and anti-clotting factors in the blood to improve clotting
Target joint
A single joint that has had 3 or more spontaneous bleeds within a
6-month period
6-month period
Tissue factor pathway inhibitor
A key anticoagulant that prevents clotting by inhibiting procoagulants. Ex: FXa (activated Factor X)
