Annualized bleed rate (ABR)
The average number of bleeds someone has in a year. This is the measurement most commonly used to evaluate hemophilia treatments.
Anticlotting factor
Anticoagulants, which are proteins that prevent clotting. Ex: tissue factor pathway inhibitor (TFPI)
Clotting factor
Protein in blood that promotes blood clotting, also known as procoagulant. You may see one represented with a capital F and Roman numeral. Ex: low levels of FVIII or FIX can determine a hemophilia diagnosis and severity
Rebalancing therapy
A non-factor based treatment that restores the balance of clotting and anti-clotting factors in the blood to improve clotting
Target joint
A single joint that has had 3 or more spontaneous bleeds within a 6-month period
Thrombin
A protein in the body that works in a key phase of clotting
Tissue factor pathway inhibitor
A key anticlotting factor that prevents clotting
